Tooth

Will got a tooth last week, but he won't let you see it! See all the ways that he hides it? He's strangely protective of it, and despite our best efforts, we have not captured its image on film. Or digitally. Maybe we'll have better luck when it gets bigger. Now it barely sticks up past his gum.

Will also discovered that he has hair. This has been nice in a way because he used to focus a lot of his energy on other people's hair, which usually involved a lot of pulling. Now he plays with his own hair, even if his hands happen to be covered in a mixture of sweet potato, rice cereal, and chicken. See below.

  • Teeth! Rorie keeps on intimating that teeth are coming but they never do. Were there any signs before they popped out that we can look for?

  • There were lots of signs. For one thing, everybody told us that as soon as teething really began, all of a sudden Will would be interested in teethers and know how to use them, and he was. He would stick anything he could in his mouth and then shake his head from side to side so that the object would run over his gums. Also with this tooth we could see it, literally, for a couple of weeks before it finally popped through his gum. And then there's the excessive drooling, but that isn't really anything new. I think he was a bit fussier than usual the last couple of days before the tooth came through too, but we've been doing a lot of traveling and having visitors, so it's hard to say for sure that it was because of the tooth and not because he was just tired or overwhelmed. But I'm pretty sure you'll know when a tooth is really coming. I bet it will be soon!

  • Well, it definitely looks like there are two bumps trying to push through and two weeks ago she was up at night crying for "no reason". But someone told us to expect a tooth in a week and that week has come and gone.

Well, we'll certainly post as soon as we see something.

  • I like to think that Will comes from a culture where having your teeth photographed is like having your soul stolen. Also, damn, that kid looks like you, and more so the older he gets. (Although it's possible I just think this because of all the times I'm seen you rub sweet potato, rice cereal, and chicken into your hair. Man, we used to have some great parties, didn't we?)

  • Boy, did we! And I like to think he keeps looking more and more like me, so I'm glad you think so too.
