Walking Will
Now that Will is one, he thinks crawling is for babies. It happened remarkably fast. Even this time last week he didn't seem ready to take independent steps. Then late last week he took several independent steps accidentally, and realized for the first time that he was capable of it. Since then he's been steadily improving, and this morning he walked from one end of the house to the other, totally by himself. He is really, really cute walking because he is short. Very short. And he stops every now and again to readjust his balance. And of course sometimes he falls on his butt, but he recovers quickly and gets back on his feet.
Ah-ha, speak of the devil. Here's Will now, walking in from the kitchen. nnnnnfj vvv b bbbb v nnnb jhe v xxxxxcxvnzggzaaaazBHJAZhz¥©∫b

Man, he's a tricksy one. I think he knows I advised you to read whatever he writes out loud, because he wanted to see you try to pronounce "xxxxxcxvnzggzaaaazBHJAZhz¥©∫b."

Wow! That *was* fast. Though Rorie can stand up and walk 10 or so steps without losing her balance, plus drag around the walker rather than prop herself up with it, she still hasn't realized that she can actually walk by herself.
She still insists on holding our hands if they are within reach.
Well, I hear that walking babies are even more difficult than crawling ones. Good luck, and I'm sure we will be in your boat shortly.

Yeah, Will is way ahead of me. I don't even know how he typed some of those characters, much less how to pronounce them.
And yep, it sounds like Rorie is well on her way to walking on her own. Will was doing what you described for a few days before he made the realization that he was totally on his own, and since then he's been unstoppable. But he still often reaches up for someone to take his hand if he's feeling at all insecure.

Actually, Rorie has been growing a lot recently, and I've noticed that she has some understandable problems walking on her own after a growth spurt. She's actually lost some walking skill since she started, though I'm sure it will be back once her current round of spurting is over. She's like super-tall now...I was gone for a week which really accentuates the differences in her height and personality. So much changes in such a short amount of time...
Are things tougher now that Will can walk a bit on his own? Does he get into more stuff?

Oh, and when Rorie gets on the computer, she has a knack for renaming all the files on the desktop, so I know what you mean about Will on the computer. Who knows how she does it...

Things are actually easier now that Will is walking on his own because for a while he wanted to walk instead of crawl, but he needed to hold someone's hand to do it. So he would want me to walk around with him all the time, which was not all that much fun and pretty hard on my back. He still does it occasionally, but mostly he's thrilled to be able to walk on his own and does so with mucho gusto. We did a pretty good job babyproofing the house when we moved, and there's not anything that he can get into now that he couldn't before. But we noticed that he's both quicker and quieter now that he's walking. We could track his progress easily when he was crawling because you could hear him anywhere in the house. Now if I leave him alone in a room for even a short amount of time, I'm never totally sure that he'll still be there when I get back.
