Lots of stuff

So apparently it's been a while since I've updated here. And in that time I've taken very few pictures. But I'll show you what I have.

First things first... Will got a big-boy bed! Matt caught him trying to climb out of his crib a few weeks ago, so that day we converted his crib into a toddler bed. We were expecting the worst when it came to getting him to go to bed from that day on, but it really hasn't been bad. We basically decided that we don't care if he wanders all around his room for a while before he goes to sleep, and it seems that he only does that at nap time. At night time he sometimes (OK, often) cries when we leave his room, just like he did when he was in his crib, but he settles down quickly and appears to stay in bed. And he never leaves his bed in the morning before one of us comes to get him. We do often hear him playing in his room when he's supposed to be napping, but he often eventually gets back into bed and falls asleep. And other days he just never takes a nap, but that's rare.

In other news, Will was kind of jealous the other day that Ryan gets to ride in the Baby Bjorn and he doesn't, so I got out the sling for the first time since Will was a few months old. I've tried him in it a couple of times since he started walking, but this was the first time he tolerated it for any amount of time. It's not really useful, though--we were just playing around.

And in more baby-carrying news, Ryan does not always like the Baby Bjorn.

What else, what else... We had a fabulous weekend with Robbie, Henry, and Jess "That Guy" Sedgewick two weeks ago. Will decided early on in the weekend that he didn't know Jess' name, even though he said it regularly before and after their visit, and referred to her almost exclusively as "that guy." It was funny, believe you me. That weekend we also got a Wii Fit. Matt and Robbie waited in line at Toys R Us for an hour and a half to get them, and I think we all agree that it was worth it. It's a lot of fun. Will shows enthusiasm for the ski jump, but I'm afraid he's rarely successful. He's not too bad at the dodging the soccer balls, though.

Then the next week I got mastitis and Ryan got his two-month shots. It was not a nice week. I kind of wanted to die. But time and Tylenol took care of Ryan's problems and my blessed, blessed doctor phoned a prescription in for me, so we were all set within a couple of days, just in time for Matt' mom's family reunion in PA, which was pretty fun. Will went on a paddle boat and played his first game of miniature golf. Ryan was as smiley and chatty as usual, and was thus a big hit with the family. We then continued on north to visit my parents and Nana and Auntie Em and Molly too (Molly says "woof, woof," just ask Will) for the rest of the week. The highlight of this visit was Will's nightly performance of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," sung in his best baritone. My grandmother was in tears she was laughing so hard two nights in a row. Also, my parents scored on an awesome toddler bed for Will on Craigslist. It was almost not a challenge getting him to go to bed each night in his ElmoCarBed. Here are some pictures that my parents took from our visit:

  • I've told everyone the story of Will smacking you and yelling "PITCH!" It is universally beloved.

How is Will doing with his C's?

  • Ryan is so big! And seems to be doing his best angry old man impression in that Baby Bjorn picture. Otherwise, super cute kid.

  • I loved the picture of Will in the sling. Lu loved hers and we used it for everything from jogging up the steps to the Sun-yat Sen mausoleum in Nanjing when we first adopted her to racing through airports when she was about 2 1/2. You may not have noticed, but I don't think Ryan really cares for that Baby Bjorn.
