Not to brag, but...

Guess who we saw today!

Thomas!

It was so much fun. We didn't tell Will where we were going and when we got there (Strasburg Railroad) and saw the train he started yelling, "It's Thomas, it's Thomas!" with this enormous smile on his face. He was genuinely thrilled. I don't think I've ever seen so many smiling little kids in one place--it was really neat. We rode on one of Thomas' coaches through some beautiful farmland (and learned during the experience that Ryan knows the word "cow"). Will loved Thomas, but guess who scared him half to death. This guy:

It's Sir Topham Hatt, and I can't say I blame Will for being scared. He was pretty freaky looking.

The Strasburg Railroad was a very interesting place and we plan to go back sometime when it is less crowded (Thomas draws quite a lot of people). They have other steam engines there in addition to a museum that I suspect we'd all enjoy. It's an easy drive for us, less than an hour through Amish country.

Also this month, Ryan turned one! Here he is enjoying the cake that I made on his actual birthday (June 3).

The following Saturday we had a small barbecue in celebration of the event, and our friend Ann made Ryan a teddy bear cake, which he also quite enjoyed.
