See the baby!

We got a surprise 3D ultrasound on Monday. The baby and I were at the doctor for a test that he passed very quickly, so the tech decided to have some fun and try to get me some nice face shots. She wasn't pleased with this picture because his face is partially pressed up against the placenta, but it's the best view we've gotten so far by a long shot and I was pretty excited about it. He's hidden his face for every single ultrasound so far, so this was a nice treat.

In other baby-related news, I have developed an uncomfortable case of pregnancy-related sciatica. As all of you "Rags to Riches" fans (all three of you) will surely appreciate, every step's a trial. I hope it goes away before the baby is born because although we're getting toward the final stretch, four to six weeks is a long time to wish that your leg would fall off.

And we finally got the nursery decorated! I haven't taken pictures, but I will. Meagan was here this past weekend watching Will, which allowed me and Matt the opportunity to thoroughly clean and mop that room and put up the border that I got a couple of months ago. Meagan also brought the baby a bunch of really cute nursery stuff like a laundry hamper and a rug and it all helps pull the room together. We still have to tackle window treatments, but that will get done soon. I just wanted to get the room in decent condition before tomorrow because that's when Julie, Tobias, and Oliver are coming for a long weekend, followed by Jess, Robbie, and Henry Friday evening. We will have a full house, and it will be a lot of fun.

Will's new room a week later

Apparently we had the baby monitor volume set too low to actually hear him wake up in the morning, so he entertained himself while we slept on by peeling his beautiful penguin border off the wall everywhere he could reach it! We have plenty more and it took no time to hang, but I don't see the point in putting it back up. He'll rip it back down.

We had a very nice weekend. We thought it was going to be rainy all weekend, but Saturday turned out to be very nice. We started off the weekend by going to Panera for breakfast, and Will behaved nicely enough that we all had a good time. And it also turned out to be the celebration of our city's 250th anniversary, so we took Will downtown for the parade Saturday afternoon. He liked it a lot, especially the horses.

And today we bought fabric to make curtains for Will's room. The ones we have up now are temporary, and don't do all that they could to block the morning's sunlight, which I believe is why Will wakes up between 6:30 and 6:40 these days. So we also got some light-blocking material to back his shades with, which we hope will help.

Will's new room

It's not totally finished, but I think it looks awfully cute and he seems to like it. He started sleeping there nap time on Sunday and it's been going well since. For his first couple of naps I think I woke him up walking around and talking on the phone, which I found pretty frustrating, but the last two days have been fine. And he sleeps at night with no problems, which is great. Matt and I miss having him upstairs with us, but it's nice to be able to watch TV in bed without worrying about waking him up. But we closed the door to the skeleton that remains of his old room because it's pretty depressing to look at. It's basically just a big room with a crib with no bedding now. We'll fix it up nicely for the baby over the next couple of months, but so far all of our efforts have been devoted to Will's new room.

Home improvements update

The arrival of spring reminded me and Matt the other day that we are going to have a baby in approximately two months, and that scared the crap out of us. So we buckled down and did some more work on the house, especially because we want to move Will into his new room as soon as possible. Above Will is modeling not only his new crib, but his cowboy vest. Now we pretty much only have to paint his dresser, move his stuff, and get some of our stuff out of his new room. We plan to accomplish all of that this weekend and have him sleeping in there by Sunday night. He really likes the room and enjoys hanging out in the crib and pointing to each individual penguin on the border and saying "Mumble." It's pretty cute.

Spring was here

Yesterday was gorgeous. Well, it rained for most of the day, but by late afternoon the sun was out, the sky was blue, and it was close to 70 degrees out. Will played outside from about 5:00 until 7:45, coming inside only for dinner. Here he is working in the garden. He seems to really enjoy gardening, which is nice. Every day he knocks on the back door and says, "Outside! Tool!" You might think that he's calling me a tool, but what he really means is that he wants to work in the garden using his tools. When he wants to be more specific he says, "Shovel!"
